The School of Fine Art contributes to Lyon’s lively creative scene

Elise Chaney, communication manager for Lyon’s Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts: ‘Located at Les Subsistances, one of the city's leading cultural sites, each year the school welcomes more than 320 students, and trains them in all aspects of art and design.’

Could you tell us a little about the Lyon National School of Fine Art?

Located at Les Subsistances, one of the city's leading cultural sites, each year the school welcomes more than 320 students, and trains them in all aspects of art and design. The school proposes a major in art, to become an artist, author, painter, filmmaker, photographer or performance artist in addition to options in design including spatial, graphical or textile design.

What makes the school so special?

Firstly, we train versatile artists, something which is very necessary today. The students regularly move from one technique to another, and work on different themes. We also attach a great deal of importance to partnerships with various institutions throughout Lyon including galleries but also the biennial festivals, the museum of contemporary art or the fine arts, and even the City of Lyon. As an example, students in spatial design are working with the Greater Lyon urban planning office on the landscaping of the banks of the River Saône. In doing so we contribute directly to Lyon’s lively creative scene. This is a very rich and rewarding experience, enabling students to make valuable contacts which can only be useful to their career further down the line.

Is the school open to the public?

Yes, and our site at Les Subsistances is an extremely interesting artistic venue! We organise exhibitions in the “Réfectoire des nones” gallery. We also run debates, colloquiums, meetings and encourage dialogue of all kinds. The Nouvelles Subsistances association also presents performances ranging from live shows to concerts. We join forces with them to make this a venue very dear to the people of Lyon, both for its event programmes but also its superb environment!

Estoy buscando un curso de francés y fotografía para este verano (en junio o julio)
¿Dispones ustedes de alguno?
En caso contrario, ¿Saben a que institución me puedo dirigir?
Gracias y un saludo

Dear Elise Chaney,
I hope you are well, I am writing to you because I would like to learn more about a product which was made up until the 1960's in Lyon, Plush Silk, I was wondering if it was still manufactured or if you had any historical information regarding it's make via looms as I believe Lyon was the last area to make plush silk.

This is very much appreciated and I thank you for your time.

Many Thanks

Jon McNaught
